Location: Multnomah Falls - Columbia River Gorge, Oregon U.S.A.
Eagle Creek Fire in the Columbia River Gorge spread over 48,000 acres causing mandatory evacuations in autumn 2017. The blaze trapped hikers, threatened homes & popular landmarks such as Multnomah Falls. The fire was massive and within a couple days hopped over the Columbia River into Washington State causing more destruction.
We visited this area about a year later and many of the trails to the waterfalls were still closed. In particular, the trail to the top of Multnomah Falls was not accessible, but luckily we were able to access a viewing platform from the base to experience its beauty. I captured this image just after a rain shower and the autumn colors were so vibrant. This is one of Oregon’s most iconic landmarks and it was incredible to see up close.
